Dear Practice Members and Friends,
Proper posture plays a major role on the quality of your health. There is great importance of head position in relationship to your body with the position of the cervical spine allowing your head to sit back atop of your shoulders.
The effects of gravity, poor posture, the weight of the head, or past traumas and stresses put on the body will cause the neck and skull to become misplaced. Over time, this leads to destruction of the supporting structures of the head causing forward displacement (where your chin is far forward past your shoulders and chest). This forward head displacement causes pathological tension on the spinal cord and brain stem of up to an additional 30 lbs of pressure on those delicate structures.
Other consequences of forward head posture include loss of vital lung capacity by as much as 30%, which in turn can lead to heart and blood vascular problems. The entire gastrointestinal system can become affected with loss of good bowel peristaltic function and evacuation being common. Forward head posture causes loss of healthy spine-body motion, creating imbalance throughout the entire body. These are only a few of the many examples of the effects of this poor posture.
It is incredibly important to restore the skull and cervical spine back to their normal position. By correcting the position of the skull and adjusting involved cervical vertebrae, we are able to restore some of the normal function of the supporting structures to relieve the spinal cord tension. It is important to understand that rehabilitation of the musculature in the back of the neck and upper shoulders is vital to maintaining those cervical corrections and bringing full and correct balance to the area as well as the entire body.
It is important to note that such treatments can only be offered by highly trained chiropractors. Standard manipulation and physical therapy will not resolve forward head posture, and neither will taking medications or having surgery for the resulting effects of this condition.

Are You Getting Enough Omega-3?
Fish and seafood contain fatty acids that are crucial to human health. Omega-3 fatty acid, particularly DHA and EPA are have been proven to be vital in preventing heart disease, cancer and many other diseases. Low levels of DHA have been linked to depression, schizophrenia, memory loss, and a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's.
Researchers are now finding that there is an association between a deficient intake of Omega-3 fats in women who are pregnant to premature birth, low birth weight, and hyperactivity in children.
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential and can only be obtained from the diet. The requirements during pregnancy have not been established, but likely exceed that of a non-pregnant state. Omega-3 fatty acids are critical for fetal neurodevelopment and may be important for the timing of gestation and birth weight as well. Most pregnant women likely do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids because the major dietary source, seafood, is restricted to 2 servings a week. (1)

Most people are not consuming sufficient quantities of this essential fat.
While most people are seriously lacking in omega-3, they are taking in an abundance of another type of fat, omega-6. Omega-6 is found primarily in vegetable oils (found in processed foods) and although it is also essential for human health, when eaten in the incredibly large quantities it is today, it causes many of the health problems plaguing our country.
The ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats is 1:1. Today, our ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 averages from 20:1 to 50:1!
Vegetable oils from processed foods contain a large amount of trans-fats. An overabundance of these trans-fats contributes to hardening of the arteries as well as increased inflammation throughout the entire body. By balancing the ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3, you can help protect your tissues and organs from inflammation, one of the underlying causes of countless chronic diseases and aging.
Start by cutting back on all vegetable oils (this includes those in processed foods) and get a regular daily supply of a high-quality omega-3 fat, like that from krill oil, daily.

Inspiration
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate,
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?”
Actually – who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people
won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone,
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically
liberates others.
It is a privilege and honor to serve my practice members, to help you to accomplish all of your health goals. Please share this wealth of valuable information with those you care for.
